SUBMITTED RESEARCH PAPERS:
Original research papers pertaining to termites, ants, cockroaches, and public health pests (fleas, biting/stinging insects, or other urban arthropods pests) are requested. Paper presentations will be allotted 15 minutes total duration (12 minutes of oral presentation and 3 minutes for questions). Presentation media will be PowerPoint only. All speakers should upload their PowerPoint presentations and video files by following the following link (http://plantsci.missouri.edu/upload/) and following the instructions found there. CDs will still be accepted in rare cases where the Internet is not an option. In such cases, send a CD with a copy of the PowerPoint presentations to the LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS CHAIR, Dr. Jim Criswell, for receipt by Friday, May 9, 2008. Please limit PowerPoint file size to approximately 10 MB.
WHAT TO SUBMIT:
All persons presenting a paper are expected to submit a title and abstract of their paper by February 1, 2008. For publication in the Conference’s 2008 Proceedings, you will be expected to submit title, author(s), affiliation(s), and full abstract (5-page maximum) as a Microsoft Word file via e-mail either before or immediately after the conference. The deadline for submitting completed abstracts for publication in the Proceedings is July 1, 2008.

STUDENT COMPETITION PAPERS:
A competition for the best student paper will be held as part of this conference. Awards of $1,000, $750 and $500 will be made to the first-, second- and third-place winners, respectively. (Student scholarship winners may enter the student competition, but they must present a paper that is different from the scholarship paper. Student Scholarship Winners will be required to attend this meeting). Students should complete the Title Submission Form and remember to check the student competition box. Papers will be 8 minutes long with 2 minutes allowed for questions. The judging criteria are as follows:
- Organization (20 points) – sequence of topics logical and effective; introduction, body of talk, and conclusions coherent; time well used.
- Delivery (20 points) – poise, audibility, expression, eye contact, use of pointer.
- Visual aids (20 points) – appropriate for subject matter, legible, eye-appealing.
- Subject matter (30 points) – important questions addressed, appropriate methods, relevance of research being conducted.
- Handling of questions (10 points) – questions made clear to audience; answers logical and appropriate.
- Conforming to time constraints (Maximum of 8 penalty points; 1 point for each 15 seconds overtime or 30 seconds under time).
